GBRT is a UK charity (number 1118140), registered in 2007. We're run entirely by volunteers — a board of nine trustees meets at least three times a year, with some also taking on hands-on roles, and volunteer secretaries support our choirs and ensembles.

What our trustees do

All of our trustees share responsibility for looking after GBRT. In practice, that means:

Guiding our mission — keeping GBRT focused on what matters most to our members and community.

Being accountable — taking ultimate responsibility for GBRT's work and the difference it makes.

Looking after the board — welcoming new trustees, supporting them, and planning ahead as people's roles change.

Good governance — making sure we follow the law, make decisions properly, and work well together.

Protecting GBRT — safeguarding our funds and property, as well as our reputation, so GBRT is here for the long term.

Some take on extra responsibilities, including:

Chairman

Runs our trustee meetings, makes sure we're meeting our legal and governance obligations, supports the Managing Trustee, and handles any child protection concerns in line with our Safeguarding Policy.

Managing Trustee

Looks after the day-to-day running of GBRT, with delegated authority to make operational decisions. This covers:

Operations - Overseeing our choirs and ensembles, organising workshops, tours, concerts and the annual Junior X Factor competition

Compliance — Charity Commission returns, PRS licensing, insurance and DBS checks

Finance — setting budgets, tracking spending, and preparing our annual report

Marketing — our website, social media, newsletters and concert publicity

People - Recruiting and supporting our music directors, accompanists and secretaries
