GBRT Flute Choir
Looking for an opportunity to play inspiring music with other flautists? Whether you're returning to your instrument after a break, looking for a new musical challenge, or simply want to enjoy making music with like-minded people, GBRT Flute Choir offers a warm welcome and a rewarding musical experience.
Our members come from a variety of musical backgrounds, but they all share a love of playing and a desire to make music together. Rehearsals are supportive, enjoyable and challenging in equal measure, providing a wonderful opportunity to develop your skills while becoming part of a friendly and enthusiastic community. The choir performs a wide-ranging repertoire, from popular classical favourites and West End show arrangements to contemporary works and specially commissioned pieces.
To get the most from rehearsals, we recommend a playing standard of approximately Grade 5 or above, although formal examinations are not required. If you're not sure whether the choir is right for you, why not come along for a free taster session to try it for yourself? FAQs
When and where are rehearsals held?
7.30-9.00pm on Mondays in term time Langton Community Hall, Stanton Road, Church Langton LE16 7SZ
Is the venue accessible?
The hall has a car park on site and there is step-free access from the car park to the rehearsal room. There is an accessible toilet. Please bring a music stand and a pencil. Music is supplied as paper copies - please let us know if you need a different format (eg coloured paper or large print).
How much does it cost?
£55 per term which covers venue hire,
Who can join?
Flautists aged 18 or over who are approx Grade 5 standard (you don’t need to have taken formal exams) and can read music fluently.
Do you offer a taster session?
Yes, we offer the first session as a free trial.
When are membership subs due?
Subs are due on 2nd January for the spring term, 1st May for the summer term and 1st September for the autumn term.
Do I need my own instrument?
Yes, please bring your instrument, a music stand and a pencil. .
Do I need to audition?
No we don’t hold auditions, just come along!

Musical Director: Joanna Preston
Born and raised in Leicestershire, Joanna began her studies on the Flute with Jenny Brooks and Leicestershire Arts in Education. Joanna continued at the Birmingham Conservatoire where she gained a First Class Honours degree and a commended Advanced PGDip Music (Professional Performance). She studied with Jonathan Rimmer, Judith Hall and Colin Lilley and received the Principal’s Prize for Outstanding Contribution. Joanna also won awards from the Sylvia Cleaver Chamber Music Prize, Woolfsen Trust and Tillet Trust Foundation alongside being awarded a Silver Medal from the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
Joanna is in regular demand as a freelance orchestral player. She has most recently performed as Principal Flute with the London Concert Orchestra, Orchestra da Camera and the National Festival Orchestra. Joanna is a member of Trio Capriccio who perform nationally and have given a recital for a live BBC broadcast. She has also enjoyed touring the USA and Scandinavia. As a soloist, she has performed the Liebermann Flute Concerto and Mozart’s Concerto in G with orchestra.
Joanna’s portfolio of work also includes a demanding teaching schedule at the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department, the Loughborough Endowed Schools, and Leicester Grammar School.
